Cover for Parched, Citygate Book Seven. A coral and cut-stone city built at the waterline of a warm shallow sea, its terraces and channels crowded with tall amphibious people. A ring of crimson fire burns above the water and its flame pours down across the steps, wrapping one of them where he stands while the others nearby have only just turned to look.

Book Seven

Parched

An amphibious people, put down on bare rock at noon.

The gate takes no interest in where it puts anybody. It opened over a dry mesa at noon and set down a people who dry out.

Saving them costs something real, and somebody stands up and says so. It is the first argument this city ever has about strangers.

Unsounded.
